Presidential Traverse – White Mountains

I completed the 24 mile Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This is a glorious hike. The views are breathtaking and because you are above the treeline for most of the hike it is just view after view after view. The weather, which was supposed to be iffy, turned out to be perfect hiking weather. I went up late Friday night so I could help shuttle a car at the trail terminus.

We started as a group of 10, but my paced matched a fellow named Bill who I ended up finishing the hike with. Bill is a hiking machine, supper strong and nimble. Bill also only has one working arm. He has to place his right hand with his left hand into his pocket so it will not hang as he hikes. Strangely in the 15 hours we hiked together I never asked him what had caused disability (if you can even call it that). I often wonder if he thought that was strange. I assume he thinks I heard from someone else in the group about it. I will see him in late September so perhaps I will ask him then.
